if anyone is on twitter, set your location to tehran and your time zone to gmt +3.30. iranian security forces are hunting for bloggers using location/timezone searches. the more people at this location, the more of a logjam it creates for forces trying to shut down iranians' access to the internet.

yesterday i lost all my foto work files...light paintings, traditional work, everything but my most recent images. the culprit? a defective external hard drive, barely over a year old. no warning. not even a tiny sigh. just one second there. the next, gone. r.i.p.
are the files retrievable? unlikely, says a techspert. disk too badly damaged. how? i ask. "just fawlty equipment. it happens. backed up your files, right?" no. no, i didn't.
for most of yesterday, all i felt was numb. brittle. by evening the gray had settled well over my shoulders...tears. self-recrimination. meant to back them up to dvd. meant to! one thing, then another. didn't. now they're gone. as though they'd never existed.

this morning i feel sunlight on the nap of my neck. watch maple and fir sway, romanced by the wind. i'm surrounded by beauty. and while the sadness, the sense of loss lingers, my muse begins to whisper. "you have web versions of the best. paradise lost. pleiadian oceans. anatomy of a room. paint them. on canvas.
give them texture. give them life. and then move on. elsewhere. who knows what's waiting just over there..."

i close my eyes and listen. and believe.
